Fun or funny in Task 2 responses

Korean speakers often swap these without noticing how it alters the intended meaning in an essay. For band 8 lexical resource the examiner looks for precise word choice rather than general comprehension. The rule is simple: fun describes enjoyment while funny describes something causing laughter. Does the band descriptor allow either in a formal context or does it penalise the mismatch?
