Why the "discuss about" rule still blocks band 8

The verb discuss already carries the meaning of examining a topic, so adding about creates a redundant preposition that examiners flag under grammatical accuracy. In Task 2 responses this single error can cap lexical resource and grammar scores even when ideas are strong. Recent 2026 slang lists do not override the requirement for precise prepositions in formal writing or interviews. Fixing it once removes the deduction from every subsequent submission.
